How I tell your Wedding Story

My Approach to Relaxed, Unposed Wedding Photography

You’re getting married — WHOO HOO !!

You want photos to look back at afterwards — Of course you do, that’s have you relive the memories

But you don’t want a wedding day that feels like a photoshoot — who would want that?!

Then let me tell you how I photograph weddings

“Nick was absolutely fantastic, from start to finish

We had so many comments about how nice a guy our photographer was!

On the day he was in the background — we were completely unaware of where he was which was exactly what we wanted”

5 Reasons That Couples choose me to photograph their wedding

1. It’s about REAL MOMENTS…

Maybe this could go without saying, that as a reportage wedding photographer, I don’t stage things. It’s about being in the right place at the right time to document the real stuff, the real memories.

Why try to recreate something from someone else’s wedding when there’s so much good stuff going on at yours!!

…and in-between moments

There are the expected parts of a wedding day, that you can plan for, things like a Bride seeing her Dad for the first time on her wedding day.

But there’s also those other moments that happen around them, that you watch and wait for, like a friend giving you the biggest squeeze of your life because she’s so happy for you.

That’s where experience counts, to notice the things that might go unnoticed.

2. Interaction & Connection…

So much of what I do is about people, about how they behave and how they interact with one another.

This image is of the Bride’s parents, just at the start of the wedding ceremony. It’s one of her favourite images from the day because if what it captures. That connection between them, the pride in seeing their daughter get married

…non-awkard, non-posing

This photo wasn’t posed.

The couple were just relaxed, enjoying their day, having a bit of time to themselves , living their best life!

It shows the connection they have, a reflection of them as a couple.

3. It’s about PERSEPCTIVE…

There’s a very literal interpretation of perspective that I bring to every wedding.

As I photographer I’m looking to see how I can elevate the impact of an image by thinking about where it’s taken from.

Is it from up close, from afar, from down low, or in this case, from above, to give a sense of moment and story.

…seeing things from a guest’s point of view

I try to be an observer at weddings, to see things from a Guest’s perspective.

This image was taken at a wedding at the Electric Cinema in Birmingham where I was able to get behind one of the guests, to be able to show the ceremony through his eyes.

It connects the viewer to the occasion.

4. Details are important…

The donut wall, I could quite easily have just taken a close up of it as one of the details on this wedding. In fact I’m pretty sure I did!

But for me, this is a much better detail shot as it still shows the donut wall, but adds in a story too.

The boy trying his hardest to grab one as his Dad (already holding one son) hols him back!!

…to record time and place

A Church wedding where the Bride & Groom where from farming families.

Parked up outside the Church was the tractor and cart that they were going to use to take them back to their marquee on the farm afterwards.

So the photo shows this detail of their day and anchors it to a time and a place.

5. It’s about STORY-TELLING…

There’s a very literal interpretation of perspective that I bring to every wedding.

As I photographer I’m looking to see how I can elevate the impact of an image by thinking about where it’s taken from.

Is it from up close, from afar, from down low, or in this case, from above, to give a sense of moment and story.

We couldn’t have asked for a better person to capture our day!

We wanted more of a natural capture feel and that’s exactly what we got, hardly noticing how many amazing pictures they were capturing on the day.

We can’t recommend Nick enough and want to say a massive thank you for giving us the most perfect images to our perfect day.
If you’re looking at booking Nick, do it!
